Walton-Verona beats Owen County in All "A"

Players to take note of offensively in this match-up:
Rebels' Madison Gamble is the 12th leading shooter in the state, making 57.5 percent during her first 15 games played. Bearcats' Courtney Sandlin is shooting 84.1 percent from the free throw line making her the third best in the state. As a team, WV is third in the state as well from the line.

Defensively, Owen County has allowed the fewest points of any team in Kentucky per game at 36.3 with a margin of victory of 22.1 points after 15 games.

The game was neck and neck from the beginning the whole way through. After the first period Owen County was up by a bucket, 16-14.

In the second half, the Bearcats outscored the Rebels 33-19 to win 57-45 and win the KHSAA Region 8 All "A" tournament.

Walton-Verona went to the free-throw line 24 times and made 16 while Owen County went to the line 10 times and made eight. Both sides had 21 points from 3-point shooting, but WV had 50 total rebounds, 38 were defensive boards. Owen County had a total of 37 boards with seven coming offensively.

WV's senior guard, Kara Taulbee, who was the tournament's MVP, led all scoring with 23 points and 15 came from 3-point range and was perfect from the free-throw line, 4-4. Her teammate, Courtney Sandlin had a double-double by adding 13 points, nine of which came from 3-point range, with 14 rebounds.

Owen County's senior guard, Rianna Gayheart, had 16 points. She was five of eight from 3-point range and added a free throw. Junior forward teammate, Courtney Waldrop, added 12 points.

Owen County dropped 14-3 and Walton-Verona improved to 13-4.
